Does anyone use one of the talking thermostats? How well do they work? Is one better than the other and what makes it so?
Our new house has 2 thermostats that are digital and thus inaccessible.
I figured I'd get some input before I just tossed out the cash.
Thanks.

since they are a bit expensive, I don't blame you. I would like to know this myself. I haven't seen much difference in features except they talk and can be programmable. I know that for the money, an inaccessible thermostat is available with more options. Just research them and do a consumer reports search or check with sites like epinions.

I used to use one call Marven. The speech is very clear and male, and the company will help you to set it up via a phone call if you need help. It is digital programmable. i dunno if this is still available as its been yearsabout 4 or 5 since i looked into one.

I have the VIP Talking Thurmostat and it works wonderfully. But I think it is in the $100 range so I don't know if it would be to expensive for you.

I tried the Kelvin Talking Thermostat for 60 bucks, it was a lemon for me anyway, my AC guy ended up finding one called the Original Talking Thermostat, unfortunately not found commercially. He just happened to have it on hand. I am going to need another for my place but have no idea what I'll be getting. Not the Kelvin again, though I loved it, don't want to try and end up with it being a lemon again.

Thanks yall. I've heard the Kelvin wasn't the way to go so thanks for confirming that.

Now that we've been in the house a while, we've figured out that for some reason the heater resets itself to 62 after a certain length of time so all we have to do when it gets chilly is just push the up arrow 12 times to set it at 74. So far that seems to be working. We'll get a talking thermo but now that we've at least gotten it usible, that's slipped down on the priority list. lol

I bought the VIP as well. I chose the more expensive model, $215 I believe. My reasoning was it will work for nearly all systems, including if we decide to install AC, and we can take the thermostat with us whenever we move. That last point was important to me.

Lol, my only complaint is sometimes the unit gives me too much info. I jut want to say stop talking, I only wanted to know the temp. Lol, joking aside, it is great, and I set it up 100% by myself.

We had an appointment scheduled to service our fireplace and furnis, and I had the guy install it then.

That's awesome! We don't have a talking one, but hubby sets the temperature so I never have to
